“Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived. Even as I think of smells, my nose is full of scents that start awake sweet memories of summers gone and ripening fields far away.”
There’s nothing as memorable as a smell. We all remember how Christmas used to smell when we were little and we all have a smell that reminds us of home. Whether it’s the sweet smell of cookies in the oven, or freshly-brewed coffee, some smells are reassuring and simply unforgettable.
When transforming the playroom into its alter-ego – the guest room – I want our visitors to feel comfortable in our home and also leave with great memories. The smell of a room is an easy way to make them feel like they’re in their home away from home, so I’ve started making my own DIY room spray. The recipe is easy and most of the ingredients are probably in your pantry already.
I like to use a citrus blend essential oil since it’s a scent that’s energizing and is known to reduce stress and uplift mood. I hope that my overnight guests can leave their stresses behind and relax while visiting me!
To make this DIY room spray, you need a spray bottle, distilled water, a bit of vodka, and an essential oil of your choice. It’s as simple as that!
- 2 oz. spray bottle
- Distilled water
- Essential oil – about 20 drops
Pour the ingredients into the spray bottle and shake well.
I even included a personalized label for my bottles which you can find here. Just print, cut it out, and glue it to your bottle.
Now I’m sure our Christmas visitors will feel welcomed and relaxed every time they visit! They might even want to stay a litlle longer!
