DIY Fa La La La La Pillow

Decorating a small space means you need to be extra creative and attentive to every little detail. So while I love the idea of setting up a big Christmas tree in the kids’ room, my girls’ shared bedroom is simply way too small for this. I still want them to feel that the holidays are a special time when we decorate every place in our home so I try to decorate the small and often overlooked places: I change the prints over their beds, add more throws and pillows, and include at least one holiday pillow.

This year I had my heart set on a Christmas pillow that would be whimsical, girly and funny. When I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I decided to create it myself! You can really do anything with a plain white pillow and the help of a Sharpie.

If drawing on pillows isn’t your forte, I created this trace-it-yourself print that you can use to paint your own Christmas pillow. School-aged children and pre-teens can do this DIY on their own; it also makes a great gift for their BFFs!

You will need:

  • A simple plain pillow case ( can be white, or pale pastel)
  • Pencil
  • Sharpie pen or material markers
  • My trace-it-yourself print

First print this file here and put it inside the white pillow case. With a pencil, trace the image of the smily face and the ‘Fa La La La” letters. Then fill it in with a sharpie pen. It’s simple as that! When washing the pillow, do it delicatly by hand, don’t scrub where the sharpie design is, and wash only in cold water.

See, making your own pillow cover is much easier then you imagined, am I right? Now, what DIY pillow should we do next Christmas?
